From Demolition to Finished Lighting

Demo

We became involved after demolition had already begun. When we first met with the builder and homeowners, the original kitchen had been removed and the ceiling and wall conditions were fully exposed.

Design and Solutions

The homeowners later visited the SHORE Smart Home Experience Center to review the goals for the renovation and compare lighting options in person. We demonstrated Lutron Ketra and Lumaris lighting through HomeWorks and discussed how the new system could support both the renovated kitchen and the adjoining rooms.

Lutron Lumaris was selected as the best fit for the project. New fixtures could be incorporated into the renovated kitchen, while Lumaris retrofit fixtures allowed the lighting in the living room and den to be upgraded without rebuilding those ceilings.

Planning and Execution

Once the lighting design and fixture selections were approved, SHORE coordinated with J. Craig Otton and CP Electric on fixture locations, wiring, control requirements, and installation details.

CP Electric completed the electrical layout and installation of the Lumaris fixtures. After the renovation work was finished, SHORE returned to commission the HomeWorks system, program the lighting scenes, and complete final testing and adjustments.

Why Lumaris Fit the Renovation

The renovated kitchen allowed new Lumaris fixtures to be planned around the cabinetry, work surfaces, decorative lighting, and room layout. In the adjoining living room and den, Lumaris retrofit fixtures allowed the existing lighting to be upgraded without rebuilding otherwise finished ceilings.

Using one Lutron lighting family across the renovated and existing rooms created more consistent dimming, color temperature, and control throughout the connected spaces.

The new fixtures also improved how the lighting revealed the marble, cabinetry, wood floors, glassware, furnishings, and architectural finishes.

Layered Lighting Across the Home

The lighting design extended beyond the recessed ceiling fixtures. Integrated cabinet lighting added depth to the glass display cabinetry, while task lighting supported the kitchen work surfaces and broader ambient lighting shaped the adjoining living areas.

Rather than treating each fixture independently, the lighting was designed as a coordinated experience across the kitchen, dining area, living room, and den.

HomeWorks With Room to Grow

The system was designed for the renovation underway today and the additions the homeowners may want tomorrow.

A compact Lutron HomeWorks system provides control of the new Lumaris lighting, scenes, schedules, and dimming performance across the renovated and upgraded spaces.

HomeWorks also gives the homeowners a foundation for future lighting additions and motorized shades without replacing the control system already installed.

The project did not require a large whole-home system on day one. It required the right platform, properly planned, with room to expand.

A Brighter, More Flexible Home

The completed lighting improves visibility, highlights the renovated interiors, and gives the homeowners simple control over how each space feels.

The kitchen now has stronger task, display, and ambient lighting, while the living room and den feel more balanced and visually connected to the renovated space.

HomeWorks scenes allow the homeowners to adjust multiple fixtures together instead of managing individual dimmers throughout the connected rooms.

Built With the Project Team

SHORE Smart Home worked with J. Craig Otton and CP Electric to coordinate fixture locations, wiring, retrofit conditions, control requirements, and final commissioning throughout the renovation.

The collaboration allowed the lighting plan to respond to the cabinetry, ceiling conditions, adjoining rooms, and construction schedule rather than forcing a generic fixture layout onto the finished home.

Early coordination also created a cleaner path for future lighting and motorized shade expansion.

Lutron Lighting for Stone Harbor Homes

This renovation shows how a focused lighting upgrade can improve both newly renovated rooms and adjoining spaces without requiring the entire home to be rebuilt at once.

SHORE Smart Home designs Lutron lighting control, HomeWorks systems, motorized shades, and integrated smart-home technology for custom homes throughout Stone Harbor, Avalon, Cape May, Ocean City, and surrounding South Jersey communities.

Homeowners and project teams can also experience Lutron lighting, architectural keypads, motorized shades, and control systems at the SHORE Smart Home Experience Center in Northfield.
